Family Replay keeps a family's home videos for that family. This page says, in plain words, who can see what you put here — including what the people who run Family Replay can and can't see.
Who can see your videos
Each family is private. A family's owners add the videos and invite people by email. A video is seen only by:
- the people in your family — unless an owner marks it Only owners;
- people you share a playlist with — they see that playlist, the videos in it, and your family's name, and nothing else of your family;
- anyone holding a link you made for a video. An owner can reset a link at any time, and the old one stops working at once.
Nobody else. Another family never sees your videos, your playlists, your tags, or who is in your family. Thumbnails are as private as the videos they come from.
What the people who run Family Replay can see
The Family Replay admin account can start a family and invite its first owner. In the app, it sees each family's name, how many people are in it, and how much storage it uses. It cannot see your videos, pictures, playlists, tags, or the people in your family — the database's access rules refuse it, not just the screens.
To be straightforward about the limits: your videos are stored privately with Cloudflare, and the rest of your family's information with Supabase. Like any service that keeps files for you, the people who operate Family Replay hold technical keys to that storage. We don't use them to look at families' videos, and Family Replay is being built so that encryption can be added that would take even that possibility away. It is not there yet; we'll update this page when it is.
What we keep
- Your email address, to sign you in (with a code we email you — there are no passwords) and so owners can invite you.
- What your family uploads: the videos, their thumbnails, the date and time read from inside each video file, and any names, playlists and tags you add.
- Where you were in each video, so you can pick up on any device, including the TV.
- Basic technical information (like device type), only to keep things working.
We don't sell anything about you, we don't show ads, and no AI company ever sees your videos.
Suggested tags (optional, off unless you turn it on)
A family's owner can turn on Suggested tags on their own computer. That computer then looks at the family's home videos and suggests tags: what's in them (a beach, a birthday, a dog) and who's in them. It all happens in that browser — the videos, their pictures and any faces are never sent anywhere, to us or anyone else. The browser downloads the recognition programs once (from Hugging Face and jsDelivr, who only serve the files). Nothing is tagged until the owner says yes.
Faces are handled with extra care: it only recognises people the owner has already tagged and teaches it, it ignores and never keeps any other face, and the face information stays on that one computer. The owner can make it forget faces at any time; turning Suggested tags off deletes everything it learned there.
The services that run Family Replay
Supabase (database and sign-in), Cloudflare (video storage), Render (the website), and Resend (sending sign-in codes). Each handles information under its own privacy commitments.
Children
Accounts are for adults. Family videos often show children; a family's owners decide who can see them, as described above.
Leaving, and deleting
Owners can delete their family's videos at any time. Anyone can leave a family. To have your account or your family's videos deleted entirely, email us.
